- Views of the Board
1. The West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board has taken the decision
to publish the Merit Rank for all eligible candidates who appeared in the
Common Entrance Examination-2016 and are not disqualified in the said
entrance examination.
2. This is a common entrance examination for admission to professional
degree level engineering/technology/pharmacy/architecture courses for
which the WBJEEB charges the examination fee @ Rs. 500/- per student.
Obviously, every candidate is entitled to know his/her Rank Position in the
said Examination.
3. Securing a position in the Ranking does not assure a candidate admission
to any Professional Technical Course. The eligibility criteria is that
“candidate has to pass the ‘10+2’ Examination from Govt. recognized Board
with a minimum of 45% (40% in case of Reserved category) in aggregate in
‘Physics + Chemistry + Mathematics /Biology’ taken together with individual
Pass Marks in each of those subjects (both in theory and practical as per the
Board) as well as pass in English with at-least 30% marks. All that the
Common Entrance Test does is to rank such eligible candidates in terms of
merit.
JEE (Main), an all India examination conducted by CBSE also publish merit
position of all appeared candidates in the said examination.
While in the ranking list for Engineering categories all 1,01,954 candidates,
accommodated but this is the fact that there are only 36,263 seats
available. Hence to state that candidates with zero or negative marks will
get admission appears to be far-fetched. The Board is committed to
maintain high standards of excellence at the gate way in Engineering
education in the State & will never compromise on the merit criteria under
any circumstances.

4. The WBJEEB is authorized/entrusted to publish the relative Merit/Ranking
of all appeared candidates on the basis of which a candidate can claim
admission to a particular Institution in a particular Course strictly based on
his/her merit and preference only.
5. Securing zero or negative marks competitive examination can decide the
position of a candidate in the only in terms of ranking. Even a candidate
securing a good rank says ‘1000’ in such exam may be disqualified if he/she
does not comply the eligibility criteria as specified by the All India Council
for Technical Education.
